For me, it didn't really matter if Iraq had Weapons of Mass Destruction or
not. To me Saddam Hussein was a mass murderer, who was responsible for the
genocide killing of his own Iraqi people. Hundreds of thousands of people
were killed!! You can look it up in any search option on the Internet and
you will get the correct numbers.
Prior to the Iraq invasion of March 2003, there were elections in Germany
and the Social-Democratic Party (SPD) of Gerhard Schroeder won again in
October 2002. Schroeder used the anti-war rhetoric cleverly against the
United States within his election platform. We all know Schroeder won. IMO,
Schroeder is just an opportunist and he used it at the right time and place.
On the other hand we had the conservative opposition party with its
long-standing friendship to the United States, supporting President George
Bush.
This is my vision: if the Christian Democratic Union (conservative Party),
CDU with Edmund Stoiber, had won the German elections in October of 2002,
things would have turned out very differently referring to Iraq and its
Dictator, Hussein.
If the conservative Party had won, Edmund Stoiber probably would have
strongly confronted the French Government and persuaded President Jacques
Chirac to support the US against Saddam Hussein. Don't underestimate Germany
with a possible conservative Government. Germans can get tough if needed.
With Stoiber and Chirac, they would have persuaded Putin in Russia; Putin
wouldn't have had any chance to go against Germany’s and France’s stand.
Then a UN Resolution for waging a military confrontation against Dictator
Saddam Hussein and his Army would have been no problem. Saddam Hussein was
cleverly counting on the disunity among Member States within the UN. He
tricked out the UN until the very end. It all started with the German
elections and the fact that Schroeder's Socialist Government won again.
Sometimes I think, it is time to say good-bye to the many socialist
governments in Europe. Only Toni Blair’s Socialist Government is an
exception in Europe.
