The reasons why I wrote to President G. Bush at the beginning of the Iraq war in 2003

Dear all,

I guess, some of you might have wondered, why I have written these letters to Pres. Bush.
Very simple: Lately, and before the war started, I have noticed too many negative reports in the mass media and on international TV stations geared towards and against the United States; especially in noticing my very own German Government handling the Iraq crisis. It would have been much easier going out onto the streets to demonstrate against the war in Iraq and the United States.

But I did otherwise; my purpose in writing to U.S. President Bush and to the American people was to show support and solidarity at this crucial time. I felt it to be my duty to do so, because of the freedom the German people enjoy today, as a result of the many sacrifices made by the American and the Allied forces by ending World War II. I, too, am against the war in Iraq, as many of you are. But now as this war is fought, we should support America and the coalition forces in Iraq.

I pray for reconciliation in the Middle East. I pray for the unity between the Islamic and the Christian world. I pray that all religions can be unified under one God. I pray to our Heavenly Father, that he may be guiding Pres. Bush and the American people. God and Christ (True Parents) love the United States; therefore I love the U.S. as well.

Best wishes,

Wolfgang Schawaller
